<br />
Hello again, dudes!!!<br />
A year after my last post I'm on the air once again. I maybe have stopped posting for all this time but I never stopped listening and searching for great music. It was only two weeks ago since the first time I've heard about the "Swans", the seminal NYC based music project.<br />
The band formed back in early 80s and stayed intact for 15 years, until their dissolution in 1997. Thirteen years later in January 2010 Michael Gira (the original Swans founder) reformed the Swans and after a tour series in U.S. and Europe they launched their first post-reformation album with the title "<b>My Father will Guide me Up a Rope to the Sky</b>". Their last album of 2012 "<b>The Seer</b>", have been welcomed with enthusiasm and received great reviews.<br />
The music of Swans is far from any conventional description, for there's no one single word to depict it. Post rock, experimental rock, noise rock, no wave, industrial, neofolk, gothic rock, art rock are some of the styles that can apply to their music because Swans music is all of them together and more. Their songs are about love and hate together and they bring up stories about fragility of the human existence, behavior and relations through the rage of noisy sonic assaults or gentle, melancholic and almost pastoral manner. <b>You will either love or hate Swans</b>, but usually there are no people who
are indifferent to what they have done throughout their 20+ years of existence as a
band. Personally, I am not one of their biggest fans as I determine myself more as a "rock n' roll" listener, but I certainly got very interested about Swans work. <br />
SWANS = Rock Devoutness, Rock Ecstasy, Rock Nirvana.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Peter Pan Hits The Suburbs" was released in 1981 to widespread acclaim. Incredibly it received great reviews in virtually all the UK music press. The typical Astronauts audience at the time was largely hardcore punks attracted by the energetic gigs and a handful of hippies so the album was something of a surprise. Full of heartfelt folk ballads and featuring legendary jazz saxophonist Lol Coxhill the album was not what fans had expected but appealed to a different audience. The contradiction of heavy chaotic punk performances and structured melodic alternative pop/folk/ambient songs continues to this day.</div>

<div style="color: #990000;"><b>Band info</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Kansas City rockers the Front first got together in the late '80s, and were led by vocalist Michael Franano and his keyboardist brother Bobby Franano. The pair hooked up with guitarist Mike Greene, Randy Jordan on bass, and Shane Miller on drums. The five musicians were soon signed to CBS Records and in 1989 they released their self-titled debut album. It took a little while, but in 1990 the single "Fire" became a minor radio and MTV hit and the band seemed to be on their way. The vocal style and mysterious persona of Franano was certainly the group's main selling point. The fact that the singer was so unashamedly aping Jim Morrison (with a touch of Michael Hutchence and Ian Astbury) didn't seem to hurt the group's image at first, however, there was no second single to build on "Fire" and the Front was eventually dropped by CBS before they had a chance to really define themselves. Perhaps the band became viewed as a knock-off or novelty within the company. Whatever the cause, it is odd that the group seemed to receive no opportunity to build on the success of "Fire." After leaving CBS, Franano and company changed their name to Bakers Pink and did manage to release a record for Epic under the new moniker in 1993. Franano also released an independent solo album under the name of Michael Moon in 1998.</div><br />

Hints of the band's former <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_music" title="Psychedelic music">psychedelic</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_rock" title="Gothic rock">gothic rock</a> sound remained. Chief songwriters <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Ash" title="Daniel Ash">Daniel Ash</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_J" title="David J">David J</a> had begun concentrating strictly on their own material (rather than writing together) on <i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth,_Sun,_Moon" title="Earth, Sun, Moon">Earth, Sun, Moon</a></i>. By the time of <i>Love and Rockets</i>, their creative partnership had clearly all but dried up, as the album lurches back and forth between Ash's tech-savvy modern pop and J's bluesier, grittier experiments.</p> <div style="text-align: justify;">The album featured Love and Rockets' biggest hit, the Ash-penned "So Alive". The song was a surprising #3 hit on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100" title="Billboard Hot 100">Billboard Hot 100</a>, and stayed at #1 for five weeks on the US <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainstream_Rock_Tracks_chart" title="Mainstream Rock Tracks chart" class="mw-redirect">Mainstream Rock</a> chart. Because of the popularity of the single in the US, <i>Love and Rockets </i>became the band's best-selling album in America.</div> <p style="text-align: justify;">After the release of the album, the band embarked on a long worldwide tour. Afterwards, instead of recording a new album and a follow-up single to "So Alive", J and Ash both focused on their solo careers, continuing in the directions represented on this album. They each released two solo albums in the break (with drummer <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Haskins" title="Kevin Haskins">Kevin Haskins</a> working primarily with Ash) before returning as a band to record <i><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Trip_to_Heaven" title="Hot Trip to Heaven">Hot Trip to Heaven</a></i> in 1994.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">In 2002, the album was remastered and expanded into a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_album" title="Double album">double album</a>. The bonus tracks featured a single remix, three b-sides, all five songs from the aborted <i>Swing!</i> EP, and a radio session. Within a year the Adorable Ones had renamed themselves the Dubrovniks in honour of the fact that Radalj and Sujdovic were both born in the historical <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croatia" title="Croatia">Croatian</a> city of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubrovnik" title="Dubrovnik">Dubrovnik</a>. The band having to change names as there already was a Brisbane band with that name.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Citadel issued the singles "Fireball of Love" b/w "If I Had a Gun" in April, 1988 and a cover of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_Stardust" title="Alvin Stardust">Alvin Stardust</a>'s "My Coo Ca Choo" b/w "Girls Go Manic" in November, 1988. By the time the band recorded and issued the single "Speedway Girls" b/w "Freezin' Rain" in June, 1989 and their debut album, <i>Dubrovnik Blues</i> in August, 1989, Radalj had moved on to form a new band, the Punjabbers, comprising Radalj, Brett Ford (drums; ex-<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kryptonics" title="Kryptonics">Kryptonics</a>, Lubricated Goat), Tony Robertson (bass; ex-<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitmen" title="The Hitmen">The Hitmen</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Christs" title="New Christs">New Christs</a>, Naked Lunch) and Tony Thewlis (guitar; ex-<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientists" title="Scientists" class="mw-redirect">Scientists</a>) The Punjabbers only had one release, a single "Rock'n'Roll Loveletter" on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timberyard_Records" title="Timberyard Records">Timberyard Records</a> in December, 1988. Radalj then formed The Surfin' Caesars and recorded several albums.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Chris Flynn (guitar, vocals; ex-Headstones) eventually replaced Radalj, and the band signed to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mushroom_Records" title="Mushroom Records">Mushroom Records</a>. The band's releases on Mushroom, both produced by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, maintained the revved-up, trashy rock'n'roll tradition. <i>Audio Sonic Love Affair</i> released September, 1990 included the singles "She Got No Love" b/w "Got this Far" (June, 1990) and "Love is on the Loose" b/w "Something's not Right in the World" (October, 1990). Glenn Armstrong (guitar; ex-Horny Toads-Girlies) replaced Simpson in 1990, and the band issued <i>Chrome</i> in June, 1992. The album produced two singles, "Saigon Rose" (February, 1992) and "French Revolution" (June, 1992). In between albums, Baker and Sujdovic toured and recorded with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beasts_of_Bourbon" title="Beasts of Bourbon">Beasts of Bourbon</a>. In early 1991, the two severed their commitments to the Beasts in order to concentrate on The Dubrovniks. Mushroom dropped the band in 1993. From a projected novel he retained the main character – Jad Wiolensky – whose name he abbreviated and whose mask he assumed. A first, very confidential and self produced cassette, "L'un Seul", was distributed before the group found the right balance with Kbye entering the lists: Jad Wio would be a two-headed hydra. As of the first concerts – 1983, 1984: guitars, vocals, tapes and machines – the duo established its exceptional style and stirred up batcave hordes and electric birds of all feathers. Obsessions for the bizarre and the marginal from the outset: Jad Wio couldn't be categorised. Between 1985 and 1986 three EPs were released – "The ballad of Candy Valentine", "Colours in my dreams" and "Aubade à Simbad" – which were brought together on "Cellar Dreams", an anthology of Jad Wio phase one. Were mixed, with of a touch of the cold and dark tones of yore, rock and roll fascination and oriental reminiscences. Without letting up, Jad Wio flaunted it on stages in France and singing mainly in English throughout Europe. Experiences which would inform the atmospheres and themes of the next album to come: "Contact".<span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"> more @ </span><a style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;" href="http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=48871812&blogId=240095564">Here</a><br /></div><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">Album info</span> <span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">(<a href="http://www.discogs.com/Jad-Wio-Cellar-Dreams/release/1933051">Discogs</a>)</span><br /><div class="content">Label:<a href="http://www.discogs.com/label/Garage+Records+%28France%29"> Garage Records (France)</a></div> <div class="content">Catalog#: Gar 009 CD</div> <div class="content">Format: CD, Compilation<br /> </div> <div class="content">Country: France</div> <div class="content">Released: 1986</div> <div class="content">Genre: Rock </div> <div class="content">Style: New Wave, Goth Rock </div><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">Tracklist</span><br /><table class="playlist"><tbody><tr class="first"><td class="track_pos">1</td> <td> </td> <td> You're Gonna Miss Me </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:48</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">2</td> <td> </td> <td> Taiba </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:01</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">3</td> <td> </td> <td> Bugs </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:03</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">4</td> <td> </td> <td> Walk In The Sky With Diamonds </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:15</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">5</td> <td> </td> <td> Colors In My Dreams </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">6:36</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">6</td> <td> </td> <td> Cellar Dance </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:16</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">7</td> <td> </td> <td> The Ballad Of Candy Valentine </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">5:16</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">8</td> <td> </td> <td> Young Girl </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:01</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">9</td> <td> </td> <td> Rhythm'n Box Bunny </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:44</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">10</td> <td> </td> <td> Paint It Black </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">4:22</td> <td class="track_itunes"><br /></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="track_pos">11</td> <td> </td> <td> Aubade A Simbad </td> <td class="track_duration" align="right">3:39</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">Notes</span><br />Recorded at Garage Studios.
